Over the past 20 years or so a friend and I have had many adventures. We have made beer, developed an interest in amateur astronomy, made long distance trips for astronomy, and started camping and backpacking along with many other interests. This last weekend went on a Spring planning hike.
Last weekend we hiked around Devils Lake in Devils Lake State Park. We discussed and made plans for this years backpacking/ hiking trip. Last year I didn’t go backpacking since I had a foot injury that required me to wear a walking boot. I have no intention of missing another trip no matter what.
My hiking partner is very trusting and let me come up with some ideas as he has done in the past. His only stipulations are that it must be under 13,000 feet and no water crossing over 6 foot.
We started the days hike at Parfrey’s Glen and then to Devils Lake State Park. We hiked up the CCC trail which is my favorite part and then to the East Bluff Trail around to the beach area. We opted for the Tumbled Rocks Trail on the way back since there was so much ice and snow on the East Bluff Trail.
The Merrimac Ferry started operating a week or two before so we though we would use it before it got too busy later in the year.
Our destination for this years backpacking/ hiking trip is going to be Banff National Park in Canada near Calgary. So much planning and preparing to do. Along with getting into shape, if I die I don’t want a chalk outline that looks like a manatee.
I plan on sharing my preparations and review of our trip. I usually make my own meals by dehydrating and vacuum packing.
